150 REMEMBRANCES: memorials in glass and plaques 

St. Barnabas, Chester celebrated the parish's 150th Anniversary in 2008. In conjunction with Special Memorial Service on Sunday, November 9 was an Exhibition of Artifacts collected from the extensive research project still currently underway. 

This research project is being conducted by several members of the congregation who have collected the names from the church’s many memorial plaques and dedications representing those who fought in past world conflicts. By using the Canadian National Archives and old newspaper clippings available on the Internet, they have already uncovered over 90 enlistment or casualty records. It is their great hope that, with the assistance of the wider community, they will be able to discover even more information on the over 60 remaining names.

Riverdale Historical Society:
The Stained Glass Windows of St. Barnabas, Chester

[Archive] On Saturday May 10, 2008, Corey Keeble, curator in the Department of World Cultures at the Royal Ontario Museum [link »] gave a presentation / analysis / historical perspective on stained glass windows and the windows of St. Barnabas. The event was sponsored by the award-winning Riverdale Historical Society [email »].

Mr. Keeble is a recognized authority on the history of Renaissance and Baroque bronze sculpture and European arms. His interests include Gothic and Gothic Revival architecture, Medieval and Modern stained glass, icons, and Judaica. He is a frequent speaker at Toronto churches and synagogues on liturgical art and stained glass.

St. Barnabas was pleased to host Mr. Keeble's lecture and welcome the Riverdale Historical Society.
